Betty Campbell was born in June of 1930 in Galesburg. She says that she is pretty sure she was born right at home, as were the rest of her 10 siblings. Her parents were the late Clyde and Bertha Meade and she grew up on a farm where she would help do chores. She attended the Wetmore School through the 8th grade which she said was not very far from home, so they could walk. In 1949 she married Mr. Donald Arndt and they were married for 20 years when he passed away. They had two children, a son and daughter. Unfortunately her son passed away just one day after Christmas this last year. She worked for Life Savers for 11 ½ years before retiring in 1960. Later in life, she had a friend that she would travel with who owned a plane. She remembers really enjoying flying about. She now lives with us here at ACMCC, and she says she loves being here. Betty thinks a lot of her aides, nurses, and activities staff because they take such good care of her here. She enjoys sitting with the ladies in the dining room, getting to know everyone better. Betty can’t wait for the next outing as she got to go bowling with us a couple months ago, and she loves the warm weather. She loves joking around and thinks of herself as a bit of a “hell raiser.” If you’re ever around I’m sure she enjoy sharing a story or two with you.
