Sharon Vaughn was born in October of 1943 in Chicago. She spent the majority of her young life in Chicago before moving to Zeeland, Michigan. She went to Hope College, majoring in Latin. She wanted to major in Math, but couldn’t get the degree she wanted. She talked with the Latin Professor who was able to come up with a program for her.
Shortly before graduating from Hope, Sharon got married and moved to Allegan with her husband. She taught for a couple years as a substitute teacher, but realized that teaching wasn’t for her. Later, she would work for Allegan County Dispatch, starting out on the radio being trained by an officer. Eventually they were deputized and it became the new 911 System. She became sick and left for a while, and after getting well, she returned and was able to work in the new building. Unfortunately, the new systems were too overwhelming for her and she decided to retire as a supervisor.
Sharon has 2 sons, 2 beautiful granddaughters and a great grandson. Today, she enjoys sitting in her room and coloring. Coloring books give her immense joy and she would love to take a minute and show you her works of art, if you have a minute.
